Orientation and In-service Training of Board Members


Procedure:

Ten (10) hours orientation is provided to new board members. The Board Member Orientation Manual is used for this purpose.

Eight (8) hours training by an outside entity are provided at least every three years or sooner if there is a change in the majority of the board members since the last training to all board members. Training may also be provided by SCDDSN through work shops and conventions. Training topics may include: Board management. Manager's Guide to Survival, Role of the Board, Building Strategies for Success, Defining the Role of the Board, Evaluating the Board, The Financial Audit, Person Centered Planning, Outcome Based Performance, Financial Training-interpreting budgets, etc.

Training videos, approved by the Board, may also be used as part of the training for the above.

Purpose

To establish guidelines for the orientation of new Board Members and continuing annual in-service training for the Board.
