Consumer, Parent / Guardian Rights and Agency Grievance Procedures


Procedure:

Agency policies describing the policy and procedures for pursuing grievances and appealing decisions made by programs or the agency shall be provided and reviewed with consumers, parents/guardians so requesting by the appropriate Service Coordinator.

Service Coordinators of the MDCBDSN have the chief responsibility for ensuring parents/guardians and consumers understand their rights under the laws of South Carolina, the SCDDSN and the Board. Should a problem or concern require a meeting with the parents/guardian or consumer, Executive Director, Service Coordinator and any other concerned party will be conducted according to the agency's grievance policy.

The Human Rights Committee may act upon any grievances or appeals that have been denied by the agency. Appeals related to denial of eligibility, LOC, Nursing Facility level of care, waiver, or services will comply with SCDDSN Directive 535-11-DD Appeal and Reconsideration Policy and Procedures.

Purpose

Parents / guardians and individuals receiving services are informed of laws related to rights and the agency's grievance procedure.
