Media / Publication Procedures / Public Education and Awareness


Procedure:

The Board's efforts towards promoting public education and awareness activities through news releases or other mediums shall consider the confidential relationship which exists between the agency and the consumers served by Marion-Dillon County Board of Disabilities and Special Needs.

All persons served shall be encouraged to provide the Board a signed public release form permitting participation and the promotion of services and programs through various news mediums.

Media contacts for the Marion-Dillon County Disabilities and Special Needs Board shall be coordinated through the Executive Director. Other staff are asked to work with the Executive Director to secure coverage for particular activities. No staff may contact the media for any purpose without the prior knowledge and approval of the Executive Director and/or designee.

Administrative staff may be involved to participate in securing media coverage for particular activities. Unauthorized contact / communications by employees of the Board may result in disciplinary action.

Purpose

The Board recognizes that public education and awareness of mental retardation and other disabilities are dependent upon effective communication with the media.
