Alternate Coverage For Direct Care Staff

Procedure:

When direct care staff members have such health issues as acute communicable disease, to include respiratory infection, gastro-intestinal infection or contagious skin rash they are to not report to work until released by their medical doctor with appropriate documentation. Permanent staff may take sick leave during the phase of the illness if they have a balance, otherwise they may use annual leave if accumulated. Temporary staff will receive no pay during their time away from work but will be assured they may return as temporary employees once released by their medical doctor with appropriate documentation.

During a staff member's absence due to the above, the agency will use temporary employees to ensure that accountability is maintained.

Purpose

To establish a process to assure that consumers and staff of the agency are free from contagious diseases and that appropriate staff coverage is maintained.
